Why do we swim?
My sisters and I grew up swimming multiple times a week. To us it was more than a hobby, it was a way of life- just what we always did and never questioned it. Looking back now, we spent a lot of hours in the pool, a lot of early mornings and a lot of tough training sessions. But what was it all for?
All the benefits of swimming are clear to me now, although they may not have always been. It was time to myself, a break from whatever had happened that day, a break from work and a break from my phone. It was a way to keep fit as well as make friends. It taught me discipline and drive, and how to persevere when it got tough, and it taught me how to manage my time and fit my work around my swim training.
There's lots of ups and downs throughout a swimming career, as all swimmers will know. But the rollercoaster of a journey is so worth it for the skills it teaches you that you'll keep for a lifetime. You don't need to set your sights on the olympics, swimming is so much more than just a sport. It's a lifestyle to keep you healthy- both physically and mentally.
So grab your Instant swimming costume and jump in, we promise you won't regret it.
